Wild Montana Skies (Montana Rescue #1) by Susan May Warren

Wild Montana Skies-Book CoverGenre: Romance
Publisher: Revell
Publication Date: October 2016

Twelve years after joining the military to flee her mistakes, pilot Kacey Fairing returns to Mercy Falls while on leave. Filling in as Peak Rescue’s SAR (search and rescue) pilot for the season will provided her with the much-needed opportunity to reconnect with her teenage daughter.

Benjamin King has worked hard, and succeeded, to build a name for himself in the world of country music ever since Kacey plucked him from her life. When his father, Chet, suffers an accident, Ben has no choice but to return home to help run Peak Rescue while his father recovers.

Neither one suspects Chet’s hidden agenda, until they find themselves face-to-face, confronted with past hurts and the one person they never quite got over. However, with the flash floods sweeping the area, Ben and Kacey must work together to save lives.

Susan May Warren delivers another page turner with Wild Montana Skies. With a heaping dose of romance and adventure, along with a hint of mystery, I couldn’t set down the first installment in the Montana Rescue series. I basked in the rugged setting Warren brought to life, and at times, I half expected to see the tall trees or inhale the fresh air of the Glacier National Park.

The author created sympathetic characters. Ben and Kacey made some foolish and unwise decisions, and I could feel the pain and heartbreak those choices led to, as well as their desire to atone for them. While I enjoyed their story, I must confess it was Ian and Sierra who captured my heart, and the cliffhanger in their thread has left me agonizing for book two.

I recommend this novel to readers looking for a love story with an element of faith and a wild adventure.

Sidenote: The Montana Rescue series opens with the prequel If Ever I Would Leave You, which focuses on Ian and Sierra. While reading it isn’t imperative to following Wild Montana Skies — I myself didn’t stumble across it until after I’d read book one — I would suggest starting there since it appears that Ian and Sierra’s story will arc throughout the entire series. And the e-book is free!

    • Thank you! I’m so glad you liked it. I’ve enjoyed several of her novels. I’m currently reading the first book in her Montana Fire series.
