Character Spotlight + Giveaway: Pepper Basham’s Adelina and Reese

Today is my birthday and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by talking about books! Every once in a while, a story comes along that pulls the reader in. A Twist of Faith by Pepper Basham did that for me. The author cost me a couple late nights as I became so entrenched in Reese and Adelina’s tale that tearing the book from my fingers proved as challenging as prying a complete and proper sentence from Reese. It thrills me to share a glimpse of the tenacious heroine and handsome hero (ladies, prepare to swoon).

Reese Mitchell is a hard-working, soft-hearted farmer who dreams of using his agricultural engineering degree to train other farmers. He’s a single dad with two adorable kids and his family is his heartbeat. But … his thick Appalachian accent may keep him from getting his dream job as an agricultural consultant, and as much as he hates to admit it … he needs help.

Dr. Adelina Roseland has known her share of heartache – and most of it happened in the Appalachian mountains. She blames the culture for her mother’s alcoholism, which led to her father’s death. The last thing she wants is to return to the Blue Ridge Mountains … but her first assignment lands her right in the thick of the culture she wishes to forget. She’s hard-working too and is very much like a lost child, looking for the answer to what real love is … what family is.

Giveaway

What is a birthday without a gift? However, true to the title, I’ve added a twist of my own. Rather than receive the gift, I’m going to give an e-book to one lucky winner. The giveaway is open to everyone and ends April 8 at 11:59 pm. (Click on the link below or the book cover to enter.)

Summary:

Love does not have an accent …a-twist-of-faith-pepper-basham

Dr. Adelina Roseland has worked ten years in research as an accent reduction specialist to attain her dream job. But a secret wager to transform Appalachian cattle farmer Reese Mitchell into corporate material challenges Adelina in ways she never expected, threatening her new position.

For one, Adelina didn’t plan for the faith and friction of Reese, or the unexpected influence of his chaotic family. Now, drawn into a culture she’d tried to forget, Adelina finds the warmth of family, the hope of faith, and the joy of love melting away the deep wounds of her past.

But when Reese discovers that he’s a pawn in her climb up the academic ladder, will he forgive Adelina s deceit or will their miscommunication end in two broken lives?

  1. Oh, goodness. What book has kept me reading late into the night? It’s been a long time since I’ve allowed a book to do that to my sleep. But I’d have to say any book by Brandon Sanderson does!

  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I find I am always caught reading late by almost every book I pick up lately!
Some of these include THE WONDER OF YOU BY SUSAN MAY WARREN; THE NEWSMAKERS BY LIS WIEHL; THE LOST HEIRESS BY ROSEANNA M. WHITE; DRAWING FIRE BY JANICE CANTORE; A NOBLE MASQUERADE BY KRISTI ANN HUNTER, NOT BY SIGHT BY KATE BRESLIN
    just to name a few.
    Thank you for giveaway

  3. The most recent book that kept me up late (and I read it in one day; I was glad I started it on a day off) was The Inn at Ocean’s Edge by Colleen Coble.
Happy Birthday and thanks for giving away a copy of Pepper’s book. I’ve been reading lots of good things about it so now I’d love to actually read the book.

    • Thank you!
I’ve heard lots of good things about Coble’s book but I haven’t read it. I’ll have to check it out.

  4. Oh how fun was this!!!
Happy BIRTHDAY, Eli!! I loved this sentence of yours, “The author cost me a couple late nights as I became so entrenched in Reese and Adelina’s tale that tearing the book from my fingers proved as challenging as prying a complete and proper sentence from Reese.”
