Sabotaged (Alaskan Courage Series #5) by Dani Pettrey

sabotagedGenre: Mystery, Suspense, Romance

Growing up, Reef McKenna and Kirra Jacobs never saw eye-to-eye. His troublemaking ways clashed with her good-girl attitude. But now, the two are forced to work together as SAR (search-and-rescue) for the Iditarod race. When Reef catches Kirra sneaking off in the middle of the night, he follows.

Frank, Kirra’s uncle and a musher in the race, has vanished, and she is determined to track him down. Finding him leads to a chilling discovery. Someone has kidnapped his daughter, and everything points toward a villain whose endgame could culminate in one of the largest disasters in Alaska’s history. Reef, Kirra, and the McKennas must hurry to stop a deadly plot before the competitors reach the end of the Iditarod trail.

Sabotaged delivers the exhilarating conclusion to the Alaskan Courage series. Dani Pettrey pins her readers to the edge of the seat as the mushers steadily race toward the finish line and eminent danger. I enjoyed watching Reef, the previously black sheep of the McKenna gang, turn his life around and develop into a strong and caring person. Kirra is exactly the kind of sweet yet determined woman who can keep up with Reef’s adventurous personality while grounding him at the same time. Her heart-wrenching story is one of finding the strength in God to overcome the past.

Pettrey’s poignant writing, riveting plots, and loveable characters have captivated me from beginning to end. It saddens me to say good-bye to the McKenna siblings and the beautifully rugged Alaskan landscape, despite its frigid temperatures. I now eagerly await Pettrey’s new series, The Chesapeake Valor, even as I harbor the hope that she’ll revisit the McKennas in the future.

I strongly recommend this novel and series to romantic suspense fans.
