Medical examiner Serena Hopkins’ life is slowly settling back to normal after the recent attacks on one of best friends. However, the mastermind behind them is still at large and he still doesn’t have what he wants. When Serena shows up at a disturbing crime scene, she is shocked to discover she knows the victim. But that’s not all. Leading the investigation is FBI agent Dominic Allen, her childhood crush. Serena soon finds that she’s at risk to losing her heart to the man all over again.

As the bodies start piling up, one thing becomes evident—the killer, whose methods resemble that of a known serial killer, has singled Serena out. As the danger around her escalates, Serena must decide if the secret she’s been keeping is truly worth putting her life in jeopardy.

The Deadly Reunions series continues with When a Heart Stops. The game has changed. The rules are new, but the goal remains the same. Lynette Eason returns with yet another chilling and spellbinding mystery that keeps the reader’s mind spinning.

While I’ve enjoyed how part of the mystery has carried over from one book to the next, giving the series a more connected feel, it has also been torture. Cliffhangers leave me flailing. I am now impatiently waiting for the final installment in the trilogy so I can finally obtain the answers to all the questions. I’m also really looking forward to meeting Jillian Carter, the final member in the best-friend trio, who has so far remained elusive.

I recommend When a Heart Stops to romantic suspense fans. If you enjoyed the first book, When the Smoke Clears, you definitely won’t want to miss this one. The stakes are even higher and the killer even more lethal.
